Welcome from the Principal

Kia ora tātou and welcome to our Kereru School website. It is a privilege to lead such an amazing school with a rich history, having opened in 1912. I am newly appointed (2018) to the role of Principal and feel strongly about continuing the legacy.

Our school is in the heart of a vibrant  rural community at the foot hills of the Ruahine Ranges. It is a hidden gem that embodies a calmness not often found in this day and age. This unique setting allows us to offer an education that encompasses the best of both worlds.

At Kereru we believe in developing the whole child; physically, emotionally and mentally. We encourage our children to take risks and allow them the opportunity to be kids. Trees are there to be climbed and learning opportunities are all around us. We recognise the value of physical fitness and begin each day with whole school fitness.

Whilst we are a rural community, we are also a connected community. We actively seek new and different opportunities for our students to attend in town, whilst also exploring our natural environment closer to home. We incorporate digital technologies into our curriculum and focus on developing 21 Century Learning skills.

Our school has a friendly environment, high expectations and wonderful supportive staff and community who challenge our students to achieve to their full potential. We are very fortunate to have a wonderfully dedicated and dynamic team of teachers and teacher aides who strive to ensure all children receive the best possible education.

Our school offers small class sizes so our students receive greater one-on-one time with their teachers. Being a rural community we work together to fundraise for the school, this enables us to not charge any school fees and really emphasises the community feel of the school.

We have a wonderfully supportive Board of Trustees who work tirelessly to ensure our children are receiving the best possible education. The current Board comprises:

  • Andrew Bruce (Chairman)
  • Amy Dunn (Health & Safety)
  • Nikki Henderson (Health & Safety)
  • Matt Warner (Property)
  • Koriine Bennett (Staff Rep)
  • Rob Pratt (Principal)

You are most welcome to visit and experience the positive learning atmosphere our school has to offer. Please contact the office by phone (06) 876 0923 or office@kereru.school.nz to make an appointment.
