Welcome to Kererū School

Tēnā koe,

Nau mai, haere mai. Welcome to Kererū School.

Thank you for visiting our website and taking an interest in our Kura. It is an absolute privilege to lead such an amazing school in a supportive community that is dedicated to providing the best possible education to our ākonga.

Kererū School is a small rural school that sits under the watchful eye of the Ruahine Ranges. Our school has a rich history that dates back to 1912. We recently celebrated our 110th birthday, and it was great to see the many generations of students (past and present) at this special day. Over the years, we have built a strong reputation for academic excellence, as well as a commitment to place-based learning, outdoor education & personalised learning. We are active kaitiaki (guardians) of our local environment (school and community).

We understand the importance of providing a well-rounded education to our students, and that is why we have invested in excellent facilities to support our mission. Our school is well-resourced, with two playgrounds, a turf, a pool, a large field, and a forest for our kids to play in and climb trees. We believe that outdoor education is an essential part of our students' learning experience and are committed to ensuring that our students have ample opportunities to explore and learn in nature.

At our school, we are at the heart of our community. We value the importance of rural education and community involvement. With a school roll of around 26, our school offers two small classes; Kākano (NE - Y3) and Totara (Y4 - 8). Small class sizes ensure our tamariki receive greater one-on-one time with their teachers, establish relationships and connections with their peers and have the opportunity to experience leadership and tuakana/teina skills from a young age. We believe that strong community ties are essential for the growth of our students, and we encourage our families to be actively involved in school life.

We actively fundraise to ensure that our ākonga have access to a wide range of experiences, including trips and various other activities. We believe these opportunities are essential for their overall development.

I hope that our website gives you a glimpse of what our school has to offer. If you are visiting to consider whether Kererū School may be a good choice for you and your whānau, please do not hesitate to contact the school - we would love to chat!

Ngā mihi nui,
